This is the formula that started it all! The original Buzz Away® relies primarily on citronella oil along with cedarwood, peppermint, lemongrass, and eucalyptus. The essential oils are carried in purified water, castor oil, and natural grain alcohol. Some of our long-time customers love the smell of this formula and continue to prefer it today.

Effective against mosquitoes, gnats, blackflies and no-see-ums.

FAQs

Why should I use a plant-based insect repellent?

Many people have concerns about some of the non-plant-based chemicals, such as DEET, that are used in most repellents.  In addition to potential health concerns, DEET melts plastic (goodbye tent or rain jacket) and also repels fish.  For many people, a plant-based repellent is an effective, sensible choice.

Are non-plant-based repellents safe?

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, DEET, which is the most common repellent, is safe when used as directed. DEET can cause some side effects if used in excessive amounts, including skin reactions and eye irritation, and in rare cases, neurological and respiratory effects. This is one of the reasons that many families choose a plant-based repellent instead of DEET.

How is this different from Buzz Away Extreme?

Buzz Away Original is a citronella forward formula that is also registered with the US EPA (most other plant-based repellents are not).

What insects does Buzz Away repel?

It has been tested against and shown to effectively protect against mosquitoes and ticks.

Is Buzz Away safe to use on pets?

Our plant-based repellents have not been tested on animals. We recommend you speak to your veterinarian before using any new product on your pets.
